Ugly Baby

Really, they all look like squished-up pink bulldogs. Are they really that cute? I mean, seriously, they're endearing especially if they are yours but how cute are they really? Nevertheless, some people say they look alike, others think there's some difference.

Decide for yourself. From top to bottom; Callie, Emerson and Savannah.

That's Right. Uh-huh.

Literally dancing on the table, Emerson was talking 'bout how he rocks, his big sister jams and his little sister likes to break it down. As he threw out his 2 year old gang signs, he demanded more milk and red vines for his crew. Nothing was gonna deny him, not even the mother's stink eye. From tearing it up on the dining room table to ripping off his shirt to tackling his uncle, he was non-stop action. We'd like to think these attention-getting tactics are just jealousy onset by the arrival of Callie but it's safer to assume he's just wired this way.

Kudos

Back-to-back sleep overs, swimming in the pool, 5 hour breaks in the middle of the day, time off from work, the list goes on for all the help mama has given. Savannah and Emerson have worn her out but it's definitely provided us with a little comfort and time to be with Callie. Thanks mama.

Enter the Dragon

It's the best thing on tv right now as Callie watches with bright eyes. It's hard to tell whether her uh's and ah's are because of the awesome acting or Bruce Lee's heroic moves.

Nevertheless, I posted a video of her laying on the bed beside me:

Eat, sleep, repeat and then poop

It's the cycle. One that's worked my entire life. I'm glad Callie has adopted the same methods. She's been a great little baby for her first day at home. Last night she slept in 4, 2 and 2 hour blocks. Luckily, Aimee and Callie were both able to take a couple naps this afternoon. The high-pitched dolphin cry only came out a few times today. She even decided to open her eyes when visitors came. Tomorrow she'll take her first outing as we head downtown to see Aimee's doctor. Emerson and Savannah will be excited to ride along side of their little sister and have her look back up at them.

The Dawning of the Daygown

Much like the dollies she had growing up, Aimee has already begun dressing up Callie. The first creation—the daygown. She worked long and hard on it (plus one for the potential boy). She fretted and worried and worried and fretted and then made numerous calls to her sister, Cyndi. Only to begin fretting and worrying again. Nevertheless, it's adorable and received many comments at the hospital. Callie looks precious in it.

Wild Kingdom

A dolphin and an eagle are fighting and swawking at each other, the sound is uncanny. That same collective sound is coming out of a newborn—just a little raspier but also a little cuter. Combined with the slumbering snore from the mechanical, robotic bed, for an disoriented minute last night I thought I was in a Wild Kingdom episode. Now, however, all is quiet. Not a sound. Nobody moves. I'm even worried about the sound of typing on this keyboard. I hope it last, at least for a while. Between pills, blood pressure checks and trying to get the new one to latch on, Aimee's total resting time was approximately 4 hours 49 minutes. Just 5 hours 11 minutes short of what she like to get.

She has a name.

We thought we'd have a few days to finalize our baby names but because of the water spill in aisle 15 at Target our decision time was cut short. So after much discussion, we've reached a consensus.

Callie McKay Deaver

We're going to enjoy one more night here at the hospital while the kids are at Baba's house. Aimee will sleep on her mechanical, robotic bed. Callie will sleep under a french fry warmer and have others change her tar-filled diapers. And I'll sleep on a 4 foot foam pad nestled on chicken wire. We'll leave tomorrow around noon to be greeted at home by two eager, little siblings.

Aimee's First Blog

I have finally gotten my first chance to check out this Blog that Brian has created. I'm not sure about some of his comments but what else is new. I'm glad it has provided a chance for some of you to follow along with us.

I am so happy to finally have this sweet little baby here. I was definitely surprised when my water broke yesterday. I really was starting to think I was incapable of going into labor on my own. The labor and delivery seemed to go smoothly for me and I'm grateful the delivery was quick and not too painful.

She is perfect in every way but of course I am a little bias. She has such a sweet little face with lots of great dark hair. She reminds me of Savannah by having a little round head and squishy nose.

Thanks for all the calls and hospital visits. We appreciate everyone's excitement and support. I am looking forward to seeing the kids again and watching their interactions to their new little sister. Savannah could barely contain her enthusiasm last night. When she was holding the baby, she giggled with delight as her little sister made silly newborn faces. She is going to be a great big sister and helper. Emerson on the other hand wasn't sure what to think. He was definitley intrigued by this new little creature and was starting to size up his competition. He was a little clingy but that didn't stop him from playing with all the buttons on my bed and tugging on my IV.

I am excited about the new little addition to our family. I can't wait for each of you to meet her. Hopefully, she will have a name by the next blog.

The Five of Us

Still in jammies Mike, mom and Debbie brought Savannah and Emerson to the hospital. Savannah's take on the new one — "loves it!". Emerson's take — "baby happy".

The new one is still unnamed. We've even been calling her various names to see if one fits or sticks. Nothing as of yet.

More to come.

She's Here!

The baby (name to be decided) arrived at 10:06 pm weighing in at 7 lbs. 1 oz. and a whopping 19 3/4 inches long. Her head has a good amount of dark hair and her facial contortions make her go instantly from a precious baby to a bulldog.

Her cry is sweet and luckily not-to-constant. We don't know if it's her vernix or dad's complextion that giving her a nice white glow. Her chubby cheeks nicely complement her double chin.

Aimee is doing great. She looks wonderful. I can only imagine how tough child birth can be on a body but she looks like she's endured it well. Well enough that I could probably slip out and catch the 11:30 showing of Transformers.

Eight minutes to go - Aimee needs to step it up

Seriously. She needs to kick in gear. She's dilated to a 10, there's fluids everywhere, the antibiotics are done, the head is right there, doctor is on her way—what's the hold up? I may go catch the 10 o'clock showing of Harry Potter if she keeps this up much longer.

The Epidural

Aimee just got hers. But because of the Deaver trait of passing out at just about anything, I had to observe from the other side of the room. It's strange to think a needle in the back is just what a woman needs to lessen her pain.

So who was the first woman to receive an epidural? And what was that conversation like? Ah, well Mrs., I'm going to poke this needle into your spine and you're going to feel a good burning sensation. Then I inject medicine that will cause you to feel a little cold. But after about 10 minutes, your pain should subside. Oh, did I mention that I only have about 1 cm of space within your spine to get the tip of the needle? If I miss or go too far, we may have some nerve damage.

It's 8:49 and Aimee just received some antibiotics to offset any effects from her prolapse mitral valve. She's definitely feeling it. The pain is less but the frequency of the contractions is up. About 49 more minutes according to my watch before it's all over.

I am a patient boy. I wait, I wait, I wait.

There's a thump in the background somewhere between 137 and 152 beats per minute. It's 6:27 pm and my prediction is 9:38 is when it will all go down, Aimee predicts 8:41.

It all started when Aimee peed in her pants at Target. Then she peed in her pants in the kitchen. Then in the bedroom. Then on the couch. Now she just drips amniotic fluid as she walks across the hospital room. As the pitocin drips, we wait, well, I wait. Aimee grips the bedrail to divert the current contraction.
